TORONTO — Leading Western Canadian swimwear retailer, Swimco, is expanding to Ontario with three new locations, starting with Square One Mall (100 City Centre Dr., Mississauga) on December 12, 2016. The three generation family-operated business with a focus on product fit and body confidence currently has 22 stores and employs over 250 people across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Swimco will have stores in Mississauga, London and Hamilton, Ontario by spring of 2017.
Swimco’s popularity in Western Canada stems from their emphasis on treating customers as friends, through trained in-store Fit Experts and the body-positive mission to help everybody and every body ‘feel good half naked.’ This is reflected by carrying only the best-fitting suits, focusing on fashion and trends that are wearable and taking an individualized approach to each customer. The goal of each Fit Expert is to both build relationships with customers and to select suits that complement each person’s body shape, personal style and individual needs.
Swimco carries over 150 swim brands from classic styles to fashion-forward suits, fitness wear and specialty swimwear. The selection caters to women, men and kids and there is a range of sizing up to ladies 16 plus and F cup. The retailer also carries beachwear from rashguards with UV protection to cover-ups; beach accessories including towels, totes, snorkels and floaties; as well as fitness items such as goggles and swim caps.
“Swimco’s expansion is a testament to our guiding principles of finding the best-fit and taking a positive approach to swimwear, which is what made us successful in Western Canada,” said Lori Bacon, president, Swimco. “We are looking forward to introducing our brand to the Ontario market and helping more people feel confident in their swimwear so that they can enjoy some of the best moments of their lives.“
The Square One store is 2,100 square feet and will carry Swimco’s full selection of brands as well as a wider range of trend-focused pieces. Following the Mississauga opening, Swimco is launching in:
- London’s Masonville Mall (1680 Richmond St.) in February 2017
- Hamilton’s Lime Ridge Shopping Centre (999 Upper Wentworth St.) in March 2017.
Swimco started in Calgary in 1975 by current President Lori Bacon’s mother, Corinne Forseth, as a mail-order swimwear business, originally catering only to swim teams and lifeguards. As the company grew, fashion brands were added to the lineup and the business began opening brick-and-mortar stores, starting with a shop in Kensington, Calgary. Swimco has since expanded across Western Canada and launched the e-commerce platform, swimco.com, in 2014. Today, Lori’s brother Steve Forseth and husband David Bacon are also Swimco co-owners, with her son Brett on the team as the Culture Curator.

Founded in 1975 as a mail-order swimwear business, Swimco began catering to the needs of swim teams, lifeguards and fitness swimmers across Canada. In 1980, Lori Bacon, now President & Co-owner, joined her mother’s growing business and collectively the duo added vacation swimwear to diversify the company’s product offering. With 25 strategic locations across British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario, Swimco continues to corner the swimwear market throughout Canada. After many years, Swimco has come back to its roots of mail-order swimwear and now offers online shopping for Canadians at www.swimco.com
