Suspended sculptural installation to take over Brookfield Place June 27-September 12

NEW YORK — Well known for presenting diversity in the arts and making world-class cultural experiences accessible, Arts Brookfield is bringing Air Pressure, a kinetic sculptural installation by Studio F Minus, to life in the Winter Garden and 230 Vesey Shops row at Brookfield Place this summer. Consisting of more than 175 animated fabric birds, the Toronto-based artist collective has redesigned the installation to fit the unique public spaces of Brookfield Place. Beginning Monday, June 27 through Sunday, September 11, the installation will be free and open to the public from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. daily, closing on Sunday, September 12 at 6 p.m.

Studio F Minus creates large-scale artworks based on materials that are ephemeral and elemental, ubiquitous yet uncommon as sculpting materials. Air Pressure is a prime example of that material-based practice, taking air as its medium and as inspiration. This installation investigates the material on numerous levels—it gives form to air, suspends that form in air, and also uses that material as a force to animate the sculpture. The artwork makes viewers aware of not just the form of the sculptures, but the negative space around them—the invisible matter everywhere.
