KAELEN Resort 2016: Rich Fabrics, Graphic Prints and Voluminous Shapes

Fresh off her Woolmark Prize nomination, Canadian designer Kaelen Haworth explores the relationship between cut and cloth in her Resort 2016 collection, experimenting with new fabrications and expanding garment shapes with ruffles, folds and pleats. Haworth’s latest collection for her eponymous line KAELEN is inspired by the craft of the garment itself, paying ode to archival cuts and techniques in a clean, modern way through customizing new, fluid fabrics. Recently seen on Elizabeth Banks, Vanessa Hudgens, and Brittany Snow, Resort 2016 brings fabrics that transcend seasons, in silhouettes that can be kept forever.

RS16: A Study in Fabrication

For Resort 2016, KAELEN interprets voluminous shapes through bonded crepes and bonded cashmere wool. Fabrics are given fresh shape and air with fortuny pleats and bell sleeves. Haworth is continuing to collaborate with New York-based designer and artistEva Zuckerman, this season on a painting for the collection that features a black and white check printed on a silk cotton voile. Select pieces were designed with raw edges for an unfussed, relaxed vibe, while the collection’s predominant black and white colour palette assures timelessness.

Coming up, Haworth hits the road with the CFDA Fashion Incubator program for an inspiration trip spanning New Orleans, Austin, Marfa, and Dallas, as she develops her SS16 collection.

KAELEN Resort 2016 will be available internationally at kaelennyc.com starting November 2015.
